Eindhoven University of Technology, Wageningen University & Research, Utrecht University and UMC Utrecht are working together to tackle pressing social challenges and realise sustainable transitions to create a better future. Starting in 2020, the four institutions are working together intensively in a strategic alliance.

The ambition is to stimulate new generations of researchers and students to find creative solutions to the scientific, cultural and societal challenges of tomorrow. The institutions also challenge themselves by allowing researchers to take unconventional approaches. The partners thus want to enable shared scientific breakthroughs, such as in molecular life sciences and artificial intelligence, and to find solutions to challenges related to the social themes of health, food, energy and the circular society. The ambition is considerable: to solve that which appears to have no solution.

Collaboration

The four institutions cooperate in a cross-disciplinary way in those fields in which they complement each other. This strengthens each of the individual institutions as well as the partnership itself. The collaboration expresses itself in different research areas and in collaborative teaching. To give this a boost, several working groups have been set up that will further elaborate these themes. The working groups of the alliance are: Preventive Health, Circular Society, Unusual Collaborations, Education, Living Technologies and AI for Health.

Preventive Health, Circular Society and Unusual Collaborations

The alliance partners will use their wide range of expertise to contribute to major social transitions. Preventive Health and Circular Society are the priority areas of the alliance, with the aim of achieving ground-breaking and iconic cooperation while building on existing research capacity. The alliance encourages young researchers to explore new interdisciplinary connections at the Centre for Unusual Collaborations.
