The Cellular Engineering Facility provides technologies for real-time monitoring and on-demand modulation of cellular functions. It serves as a center of expertise for advanced synthetic cell biology, including biosensors, inducible cellular actuators, chemogenetic and optogenetic systems and genetic modification. These advanced systems enable molecular pathways to be monitored and controlled with exceptional selectivity and acuity and often allow previously unanswerable questions to be resolved. However, using these tools remains challenging for unfamiliar researchers. Within the facility, we have hands-on experience with a wide variety of synthetic systems.
