On 7 November 2025, the Centre for Living Technologies (CLT) hosted CLT Meet, bringing together members of the CLT community for an afternoon of presentations and discussion focused on current research and practice in living technologies and synthetic biology.

The programme featured contributions from researchers and student teams, reflecting a broad range of topics and approaches:

  • Christian Kroly presented From waste to alcohol and bioplastic, discussing research on the biological conversion of waste streams into valuable products.
  • Bram Bosch presented AI-based unsupervised feature discovery for microscopy images, highlighting the use of artificial intelligence to analyse complex microscopy data.
  • The iGEM Utrecht team presented their 2025 project on developing a self-sustaining drug delivery system by engineering the commensal fish bacterium Pseudomonas alcaligenes to colonise the gut and secrete therapeutic compounds. The system is tested using zebrafish as a model organism.

  • The iGEM Wageningen team introduced their 2025 project BCoated, which focuses on developing a modular, sustainable seed coating made from bacterial cellulose. The project explores biodegradable alternatives to conventional seed coatings, with tunable properties such as water retention and controlled release of functional compounds, while avoiding microplastic pollution. A distinctive aspect of this CLT Meet was the interaction between students new to synthetic biology, including bachelor’s and master’s students, and experienced researchers within the CLT network. The meeting provided an accessible environment for early-career participants to engage with ongoing research, ask questions, and exchange ideas across different levels of experience.

CLT Meet events offer a recurring platform for knowledge exchange and community building within the Centre for Living Technologies. The Centre for Living Technologies thanks all speakers and participants for their active engagement and contributions, and looks forward to future CLT Meet events.
