On 16 May 2025, the Centre for Living Technologies (CLT) hosted its second CLT Meet of the year at Wageningen University & Research. This engaging afternoon brought together EWUU researchers to explore cutting-edge developments in living technologies, featuring technical presentations, dynamic discussions, and a special UNLOCK facility tour.

Event Highlights

The event commenced with a networking lunch, followed by a series of insightful presentations:

  • Nefeli Ithakisiou (UMC Utrecht): Discussed high-resolution imaging of patient-derived airway cells for diagnosing and treating primary ciliary dyskinesia.
  • Pieter Candry (WUR): Explored engineering stability in microbial systems, focusing on monitoring tools and design principles.
  • Anna Elizabeth George (Utrecht University): Shared insights on controlling exosome secretion.
  • Gökçe Özkul (TU/e): Presented on active learning-guided optimization of cell-free protein expression, merging machine learning with biotechnology.

The presentations sparked lively discussions, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration among attendees.

UNLOCK Facility Tour

The afternoon concluded with a guided tour of UNLOCK, Wageningen’s state-of-the-art research infrastructure dedicated to microbial communities. Participants gained firsthand insights into advanced systems supporting research in microbial ecology and industrial biotechnology.

Looking Ahead

The CLT Meet continues to serve as a platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration within the EWUU alliance. We look forward to the next CLT Meet, scheduled for later this year, and encourage researchers to participate and contribute to the ongoing dialogue in living technologies.
